Primary Purpose: This position is an integral part of a multidisciplinary Research Computing team that enables research success at the University of Saskatchewan. The Research IT Analyst supports research, scholarly and artistic work at the University across a broad spectrum of disciplines. The Research IT Analyst provides support in information technology (IT) for researchers through consultation work, needs assessment, service development and operation, and grant application review and analysis. They support researchers in the use of specialized computational hardware, software, operating systems, and visualization tools and services in support of their research. This position works closely and directly with researchers and ICT to help meet research goals using technology.A strong customer service perspective is required, including developing and maintaining professional relationships with researchers while balancing competing priorities, deadlines and expectations. This position requires effective communication with technical and research specialists in a complex environment.Occasional weekend or evening work may be required which will be balanced with flex time considerations.In support of our commitment to the safety of our campus community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be working remotely until the University returns to on-campus work.Accountabilities:The key accountabilities for this position are:Directly supporting university researchers through a variety of modalities, including meetings and an issue tracking system.Assessing the IT needs of those doing research, scholarly and artistic work at the university, including gathering, documenting, and validating requirements for specific projects or services.Advising researchers who are preparing grant applications with respect to IT considerations for their proposals (e.g., equipment, processing and storing data, third party services, existing local and national resources).Managing and operating IT services for University researchers.Providing support and expertise on commercial research software packages (e.g., MATLAB, ArcGIS, NVivo)Actively participating in the Research Computing team, including discussions, decisions and tasks related to the overall configuration, operation, and support of IT for research and scholarship.Establishing effective working relationships between ICT and other units and research-focused groups within the University.QualificationsEducation: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is required. A graduate degree is a significant asset.Experience: A minimum of three to five years of related work experience.
