Job Description

This position will contribute to the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nation (FSIN) goal of the protection of inherent and Treaty rights, through the protection of healthy, sustainable fish and fish habitat in our communities and our traditional territories. Key responsibilities of the Researcher/Policy Analyst will include assisting in the implementation of the Indigenous Habitat Protection Program (IHPP) through engagement with our First Nations. Extensive travel will be required.___________________________________________________________________Responsibilities:· Communicating and engaging First Nations on all aspects of fish and fish habitat protection.· Providing research, analysis on policies/legislation impacting fish and fish habitat, as well as policy development related to fish and fish habitat.· Assisting in the development of the IHPP First Nations Fish and Fish Habitat Stewardship Framework.· Coordinating communication sessions in First Nations, by organizing meetings, advertising and communicating to ensure community members are aware of the ongoing work (including Elders, Leadership, Land Users and Youth when possible).· Travel to First Nations across the province when needed to attend meetings, training, workshops, and events with the FSIN Biologist or alone.· Assisting in the coordination of and participation in Technical Committee meetings.· Working effectively, without supervision, as well as part of a team.· Preparing reports and presentation materials for meetings as required.· Documenting and reporting through detailed notes the feedback gathered from First Nations on a regular basis.QualificationsEducation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Biology or Environmental Science.
Skills and Abilities
  • Cultural knowledge of fisheries, fish, lakes, rivers and ecosystems and/or relevant post-secondary education.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring, biology, ecology an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with youth and/or Elders.
  • Experience public speaking is an asset.
  • Strong work ethic and accountability.
  • Highly organized and able to manage time efficiently.
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, cultures and histories.
  • Ability to speak and understand a Saskatchewan First Nation language would be an asset.
  • Ability to undertake extensive travel.
  • Have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, Teams and Zoom.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
