Job Description

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is the national synchrotron research facility on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. This facility produces high-intensity synchrotron light, millions of times brighter than sunlight, to explore the nature and structure of molecules and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions. The CLS facilitates scientific research aimed at finding solutions for global challenges in agriculture, health, advanced materials, and the environment.CLSI is now accepting applications for a Shipping/Receiving/Inventory Technician in the Finance and Corporate Services division. Reporting to the Supply Chain Services Coordinator, the Shipping/Receiving/Inventory Technician position is responsible for the shipping and receipt of goods required for the CLS. In addition, this role will be responsible for import/export compliance and providing cross-functional support for other in-scope Finance positions.Responsibilities:Shipping

  • Prepares goods to ship from the CLS Facility to vendors or other destinations. Shipment preparation includes, but is not limited to:
    • Packaging
    • Preparation of shipping documentation, i.e. courier waybill, customs paperwork for international shipment, etc.
  • Orders shipping materials.
  • Attends to shipping, including loading of goods into couriers’ truck.
  • Respond to customs inquiries and issues, and coordinate customs clearances with the customs broker.
Receiving
  • Attends to goods delivered to the CLS Facility loading dock, including answering the door, unloading goods, and signing courier waybills.
  • Verification and receipt of all incoming goods including, but not limited to:
    • Unpacking goods, verifying packing slips against Purchase Order data, entering receipt information into purchasing system, filing packing slips.
    • Documenting and resolving receiving discrepancies with vendors (quantity, specification, etc.).
    • Appropriately tagging deliveries upon receipt when an inspection is required and notifying appropriate personnel.
    • Distributing goods to required end-users or storage points, notifying end-users of goods arrival and location, and placing inventory in the assigned warehouse bin location.
    • Segregation and control of non-compliant or off-spec deliveries.
  • Maintains cleanliness of loading dock and receiving areas, including disposing of excess packaging materials (wood, pallets, cardboard, bubble wrap, etc.).
Inventory
  • Supports the Financial Technician II with inventory management duties including, but not limited to: cycle counts, inventory replenishment, stock card entry.
Other duties as assigned which may include, but are not limited to:
  • Expediting and tracking of user samples and returns.
  • Operation of a forklift.
  • Documentation for disposal/recycling of excess equipment.
  • Tagging and recording equipment purchases.
  • PCARD reconciliation.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma and relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Strong writing, spelling and grammatical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Remuneration: This position falls within the scope of the Unifor Local 609 Collective Agreement. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
