Job Description

Allan Construction is looking for a surveyor/Top-Con Technician to join our team at the BHP Jansen mine. This role will provide survey support to an existing project while working a 7 on, 7 off day shift, with 12-hour days, and overtime after 8 hours. This role will be a nice combination of field surveying and office work. The surveyor will report to our QA/QC manager. Full camp accommodations are provided at the Jansen Discovery Lodge.Job Duties:

  • Operating RTK GPS equipment (experience with Topcon is considered an asset) on construction sites around the province
  • Reading survey stakes to determine grade specification
  • Calculating given elevations/measurements from drawings and perform layout
  • Comprehending blueprint readings to prepare layouts and do as-builts of the following, but not limited to:
  • Excavation limits for shallow foundations, concrete pour heights, concrete/foundation corners, concrete embeds and anchors, and underground piping locations)
  • Performing topographic surveys to determine volume quantities for progress billing, and performing as built surveys on various worksites throughout the province
Job Requirements:
  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Geomatics/Survey Technology Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution preferred
  • 2 years of survey experience in construction layout services, topographic surveys, control surveys, and as built surveys on earth moving and industrial mine jobsites preferred
  • Previous surveying experience working with AutoCAD programs, Magnet and Civil 3D preferred
  • Proficiency with RTK GPS, rod and level, laser level, machine control and robotic total station measuring equipment preferred
  • The ability to be work alongside site superintendents, clients, and other workers
  • Safety tickets would be an asset
  • Previous heavy equipment experience would be an asset
  • Knowledge of materials test, and quality control standards/procedures would be an asset
  • Full vaccination including a booster shot (Required by BHP)
