Reporting to the Director, Therapeutic Courts, the successful candidate will have a primary role in coordinating support for the Saskatoon Domestic Violence Court and the Battlefords Domestic Violence Treatment Options Court, as well as a secondary role supporting therapeutic courts work generally in Saskatchewan.Key Accountabilities of this Position:

  • Coordinate and support the specialized Domestic Violence Courts in Saskatoon and North Battleford. This involves establishing and collaborating with individuals employed by justice sector programs such as the judiciary, courts staff, prosecutions, defense bar, police, probation, treatment providers, victim services, and social services.
  • Attend domestic violence court and assist in explaining domestic violence court processes to offenders, victims, and their families.
  • Serve as the liaison with community-based organizations and the public including responding to inquiries and delivering public education presentations.
  • Develop the Ministry’s and partners’ knowledge about justice system responses to offending and victimization in domestic violence cases and the impact of existing gaps in service delivery.
  • Consult with and work with a broad sector of justice personnel and other government and community organizations, on integrated responses to domestic violence.
  • Access and report court data, assist in information and statistics gathering and reporting, analyze data, and evaluate programs, for the Saskatoon and Battlefords Domestic Violence Courts and other projects as required.
  • Collaborate with others on initiatives and activities related to Therapeutic Courts.
Our candidate of choice will have:
  • An understanding of the justice system as it pertains to the various levels of court and thorough knowledge on domestic violence courts.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, acts, regulations, programs, policies, protocols and procedures as they apply to domestic violence courts.
  • At least two years’ experience in successful relationship building with an array of diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in complex legal proceedings involving an array of stakeholders.
  • In-depth understanding of collaborative processes and strong mediation skills including the ability to listen and clarify concerns and respond appropriately to clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.
  • The ability to be innovative and proactive in order to develop creative solutions to anticipated or actual barriers to improvement in the area of therapeutic courts.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required for this position would be acquired through:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences with a focus on theories of criminology, victimization, sociology, and social policy development as well as experience with collaborative processes and the criminal justice system.
  • Several years’ experience working with diverse stakeholders (e.g., victims, offenders, families, community based organizations).
  • Previous experience working in a domestic violence court would be an asset.
This position is located in Saskatoon and frequent travel to North Battleford will be required.What we offer:
