This position reports to both the Administrator, Sayward School and to the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.Required Qualifications:one year recent clerical/secretarial experience in an elementary, secondary, or middle school office environment;successful completion of the equivalent of a one-year diploma or certificate program (approximately 700 to 1100 hours of instruction) at a recognized post-secondary institution in an administrative assistant/bookkeeping program,OR three years recent related office administration and bookkeeping experience, including:intermediate knowledge of relevant software programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, and recognized accounting software;thorough bookkeeping knowledge and experience; including accounts receivable, accounts payable, budget reporting, bank reconciliation, and accounting procedures;a minimum proven net typing speed of 45 wpm;ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality;demonstrated excellent written, verbal and active listening communication skills;a demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, professional judgment, and diplomacy;excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize job-related duties and to complete tasks in a timely fashion;the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision;the ability to function well in a busy office, and to maintain a positive relationship with students, parents, staff, and school administration; anddemonstrated knowledge of the MyEdBC student administration system for use at elementary schools.Duties will include but are not necessarily limited to:performing a variety of office administration for the school administration, including reception duties, mail processing, typing, copying, and filing;performing all aspects of the bookkeeping function, including budget reporting, school AP/AR, cash handling, bank reconciliations, while ensuring district financial procedures are followed at the school;responsible for maintaining accurate student records within MyEd BC Student Administration System in adherence to district policies; including registration, attendance record-keeping, report card preparation, and report generation for the district and Ministry of Education;responsible for the purchase of supplies and equipment; and maintaining the school’s inventoryaiding the school and school administration in communicating with parents and the general public by helping to share current information and stories about what’s happening in and around the school by regularly maintaining the school’s websiteApplications with the following documentation will be considered:resumecovering letter indicating why you are seeking this position;three professional references;a copy of Grade 12 certificate or equivalent; anda copy of a 1-year diploma/certificate in an administrative assistant/bookkeeping program, and/or Word and Excel certificates, as well as any other related post-secondary certificates of achievement.The minimum rate of pay for this position is $27.19 per hour, in accordance with the current Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 723.Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m., August 26, 2021.
