Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC) is a 252-bed facility that provides specialized inpatient mental health and acquired brain injury treatment and rehabilitation services through five specialized patient programs: Acute, Geriatric, Rehabilitation, Forensic and Acquired Brain Injury.   • This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
Qualifications:Essential:
  • Completion of a recognized course in Commercial Cooking and experience in a large-scale commercial cooking operation (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience in coordinating food distrubution
  • Ability to apply food knowledge, specifically food safety requirements, safe work practices and Health Regulations
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to work independently

  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
Duties:The incumbent at Selkirk Mental Health Centre will be responsible for; Preparing ingredients, cooking meals, assisting with meal tray assembly including special dietary items, maintain sanitation and safety standards and providing coaching and leadership to kitchen helpers.
