Nova House is located in Selkirk, Manitoba and is a residential shelter for those seeking safety from domestic/family violence. Please visit our website prior to applying for a position with Nova House to ensure you are familiar with our organization and believe in what we do.SUMMARY OF POSITIONTo oversee all kitchen operations ensuring healthy and nutritious meals are prepared and served for all families residing in the shelter. Order inventory, and create inventory systems for kitchen supplies, ensuring sufficient stock levels are maintained. Create, review and update menu options for clients/families, ensuring all meals meet food guide requirements. Establish guidelines and systems to teach clients basic cooking skills, by working with clients in the kitchen for meal prep and serving of meals. Maintain a safe and clean working environment that facilitates a trauma informed space that will contribute to the smooth operations of the shelter. The Kitchen Coordinator will work closely with all agency staff to promote client safety, empowerment, facilitate change and healing in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECOMPETENCIES:Facilitation and Coordination Expertise.Knowledge in Techniques of Nutrition/Cooking.Communication Proficiency.Ethical Conduct.Collaboration Skills.Flexibility.QUALIFICATIONS:· Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by completed post-secondary coursework in nutrition, cooking, sanitation, food production management, psychology.· Minimum of 2 years experience in quantity food preparation, cooking and serving in quantity, preferable in a shelter setting· Valid Food Handlers Certificate· Ability to teach clients one-on-one and facilitate groups/workshops on related topics such as nutrition, budgeting/food shopping, meal preparation.· Ability to teach clients / families basic cooking skills and meal preparation one-on-one and presentation style.· Ability to incorporate best practices in the field including strength based, client-centered approaches and working within a trauma informed philosophy.· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.· Good time management and organizational skills· Ability to work under pressure alone, and in a team environment, and be reliable.· Experience and ability to facilitate and teach adults and youth/children.· Valid Manitoba driver’s license with an acceptable driver abstract.· Valid First Aid/CPR certification· Up to date Criminal Record check including Vulnerable Sector· Up to date Adult & Child Abuse registry checkRESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
