Join our team of Manitobas best as we continue to build a company that supports innovation,commitment and customer service.We are seeking a GIS Technical Assistant to work in our Distribution Engineering Department in Selkirk. Under the direction of theGIS Group Leader, will assist with the administration, population, maintenance, storage, acceptance and dissemination of theassociated electrical distribution GIS information databases and land base information. The majority of the work is to be done usingthe GE Smallworld Core and Design Manager software, AutoCAD, and ESRI ArcMAP. Assists other workgroups with the productionand maintenance of distribution drawings. Confirms plant information with field checks and data acquisition. Conduct various typesof cadastral data collection for placement and locating of distribution plant.Responsibilities:
  • Assist with maintaining accurate electric distribution system data in the eGIS Distribution databases.
  • Produce and maintain accurate overhead and underground distribution plans both rural and urban, sub-transmission plans,
and complex distribution facility schematics (including feeder, phasing and fuse coordination schematics).
  • Perform conflict resolution on electric and land base objects.
  • Utilize quality control and quality assurance procedures to correct invalid data.
  • Prepare detailed accurate land base using GE Smallworld Core and ESRI ArcMAP software and perform land base
management for electric facilities.
  • Insert and georeference consultant drawings and/or other land base using FME or SOMS tools.
  • Conduct field checks to ensure the accuracy of the distribution data and the location of equipment using FDC (Field Data
Collection) software, DGPS, laser rangefinder, and digital photos.
  • Perform technical cadastral data collection for the placement and verification of overhead and underground plant in rural and
urban areas as required using GPS or conventional collection methods.
  • Liaise with Distribution Planning & Design staff, field staff, public utilities, and others, to obtain or supply pertinent information
on existing or proposed distribution plant to facilitate drawing accuracies, drawing preparation and maintenance of the eGISDistribution databases.
  • Assist with or prepare accurate work order design drawings (including "as built" status) and crossing drawings (river, railway,
pipeline) and ensure those drawings follow Manitoba Hydro electric and gas drafting standards by working closely with staff inthe Design Section.
  • Archiving Distribution drawings into EDMS.
Qualifications:
  • A two year diploma in Geomatics Technology or Civil Technology specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Technology from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of two years directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability of assembling cadastral data and preparing detailed and accurate land base plans.
  • Demonstrated ability of assembling technical data and preparing detailed plans of a distribution system with accuracy and

  • Demonstrated specialized skills in using a personal computer and associated support hardware and software in particular
plotters, GE Smallworld Core and Design Manager, AutoCAD, and ESRI ArcMAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire field data in challenging and/or remote terrain.
  • Competent in the use of GPS survey equipment, total stations, electronic field books and precise levels.
  • Possess a complete understanding of coordinate systems and vertical datums and the associated calculations to determine
accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental mathematics, in particular, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to produce professional quality drawings in an electronic drawing format.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver Licence.
Salary RangeStarting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
