  • The position reports directly to the Manager of Recycling Operations. Primary responsibilities include leadership, supervision and safety of the Maintenance Department Team through the planning, estimating, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance programs ensuring that equipment, parts, materials, special tools, contractors, personnel and skills are available for the orderly, efficient and safe execution of maintenance work orders and programs in accordance with corporate policy, procedure, direction and culture.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the Safety, leadership, and Supervision of the Maintenance Department Team through the assignment of work including scheduling of work/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back up for absent employees, shift rotations and exception reports
  • Ensuring that safety and compliance program objectives are met by cultivation of relationships both internal and external, and providing leadership and support to all departments
  • Research, develop and implement skill training programs and schedules for the maintenance department for the procreation of expanded knowledge throughout the department
  • Maintains close liaison with Production Supervisors, Purchasing and Storeroom personnel. Attends all applicable supervisory meetings and interfaces in maintenance decision process
  • Reviews and validates work requests prior to processing work orders. Performs on-site evaluation of all work requests (as needed) to determine the nature of necessary repairs, cause of equipment damage, specific initial conditions required for repair, and other data and pertinent information needed for job planning and scheduling
  • Performs technical research using a variety of sources to develop solutions that facilitate continuous improvement through new designs and innovative approaches to the reliability and maintenance processes
  • Research repair parts and material requirements for maintenance items. Coordinate with Purchasing and Storeroom personnel to procure, distribute, and stage materials for scheduled maintenance items. Coordinate with Storeroom personnel to maintain inventory of frequent use materials
  • Coordinates with Purchasing for the acquisition of contractor services. Directly interfaces with contractors for scheduling of services
  • Prepares work orders for maintenance team to use in the performance of maintenance items. Provide sufficient detail for work accomplishment to include, but not limited to, general job description/objective, step-by-step sequence for critical processes, listing of repair parts and materials, identification of special precautions, staging list of special tools and equipment, and any applicable retest requirements
  • Administers the Preventive Maintenance (PM) system. Coordinates with the Plant Manager and Production Supervisors for the accomplishment of PM items
  • Prepares cost estimates for all maintenance items in terms of materials, labor, and contractor services. Analyzes actual cost expenditures upon completion of work orders.
  • Coordinates with Plant Manager and Production Supervisors to schedule all maintenance items including work orders and preventive maintenance
  • Maintaining the equipment in a manner that supports optimum utilization with minimum downtime by ensuring policies and practices are maintained within the established Safety, Scheduling and budgetary requirements
  • Works with Plant Manager and Engineering for equipment upgrades and Capital Expenditures (CAPEX)
  • Attends all departmental budgetary meetings and is part of the budgetary decision processes for the maintenance department
  • Assists the purchasing department with the acquisition of emergent or difficult to obtain material and services
  • Coordinate department activities and special projects to ensure quality and meet scheduling deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Mechanical or Industrial Technologist OR Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Certified Millwright with experience in an industrial environment
  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrated leadership in a fast paced, dispersed unionized manufacturing work environment
  • Proven experience in data analysis and process improvement project leadership
  • Strong time management skills and ability to adjust to shifting priorities
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of inventory management and lean manufacturing principles
  • A strong sense of urgency/assertiveness and the ability to focus on detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
