  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to travel to remote work sites within the province by ground, water, or air transportation
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to provide services and meet operational demands
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence (with the ability to upgrade to a Class 3 within 1 year)
  • Must be able to stay overnight in remote communities
  • Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the job such as work in confined spaces and perform work over/around water
Qualifications:Essential:
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma or a valid 3rd Class Marine Engineering certificate or an equivalent combination of education and or experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations under the Canada Shipping Act (2001) for the maintenance, operation and renovation of 200 tonne and under passenger vessels.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations for vessel repair, maintenance and construction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of naval architecture and marine engineering.
  • Experience in the Marine Industry as it relates to operation, maintenance, and renovation of 200 tonne and under passenger vehicles.
  • Experience managing, monitoring and administering program expenditures.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously to influence or motivate persons or groups.
  • Written communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records and prepare applicable. correspondence and associated technical reports for a wide ranging audience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Supervisory experience of geographically dispersed work units (recruitment, training and development and performance management.
  • Experience with contract administration and management.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Duties:The Marine Maintenance Superintendent, who reports to the Manager of Marine Operations, provides supervision and direction to the branch with respect to the overall maintenance, inspection, repair and modification of all passenger/vehicle ferries, shore facilities, terminals and related equipment within the section to ensure timely and cost effective repair and servicing of all marine assets. Supervises the maintenance support staff and instructs and trains the ferry crews in the performance of their maintenance duties.
