We work to promote Nova Scotia as Canada’s premier fish and seafood province.About Our OpportunityUnder the supervision of the Manager of Aquaculture Operations, the Aquaculture Operations Program Specialist is responsible for providing advanced specialized program administrative or management work for the province-wide aquaculture Farm Management Plan Program and associated programs under the purview of the Operations section. The incumbent will work closely with staff across the Aquaculture Division, in addition to the aquaculture industry, academic community, and various federal/provincial agencies and stakeholders to effectively manage the aquaculture industry in Nova Scotia.Primary AccountabilitiesAs the Aquaculture Operations Program Specialist, you will:

  • Manage and deliver required program outcomes
  • Identify and design programs to assist with the evaluation and planning for future direction of programs and policies
  • Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures
  • Develop and deliver a plan for program evaluation, program change management and communications
  • Work independently while providing guidance and training internally and externally, as needed
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful within this role, you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Aquaculture, Oceanography, Marine Technology, Marine Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, etc.) plus 6 years related experience; an acceptable combination of equivalent training and experience may be considered.As the successful candidate, you have attained substantial experience in administering provincial programs. You have experience in aquaculture, environmental science and monitoring, and experience in the development and implementation of regulatory and industry management programs. Initiative, analytical and conceptual thinking, information seeking, effective interactive communication and time management skills are key in this role.The following would be considered an asset:
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation relevant to aquaculture in Nova Scotia
  • Knowledge and experience working with all sectors of the aquaculture industry in Nova Scotia
  • Knowledge and experience related to the Nova Scotia Aquaculture Farm Management Plan Program
  • Knowledge and experience with auditing program principles, design and implementation
