As a department, we work to promote Nova Scotia as Canada’s premier fish and seafood province.About Our OpportunityAre you interested in supporting the growth and development of Nova Scotia’s seafood industry Are you a team player with knowledge of the seafood industry and skilled in providing front-line service delivery If so, this may be the job for you!As a Coastal Resource Coordinator based in Shelburne with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of individuals, seafood companies, and other government partners to develop and administer programs and policies related to fisheries, aquaculture, coastal zone initiatives and rural economic development issues.Primary AccountabilitiesYou will research and gather local and regional fisheries information, provide fisheries related advice, coordinate economic development project activities, and organize stakeholder consultations related to fisheries work in your specific geographical territory in rural Nova Scotia.As the initial point of contact for NSDFA staff and industry the incumbent must be informed, knowledgeable and able to operate and communicate with tact and diplomacy to deal with a broad range of issues and circumstances.Qualifications and ExperienceA bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Resource Management is required for this position or an equivalent combination of training and relevant related program, policy or resource management experience in the commercial seafood industries.In addition to the above, to be successful within this role, you will have knowledge of the fisheries and aquaculture programs offered by the Department, thorough understanding of the Nova Scotia commercial fishing, processing, and aquaculture industries, familiarity with sportfishing community as well as pertinent laws, regulations, and programs. • A valid Standard Level First Aid, CPR, driver’s license and access to reliable means of transportation are required.
• Position involves significant travel within their work area, the Province, regionally and potential for international travel.
• The nature of the work sometimes requires extended hours and travel in inclement weather and poor conditions.
