Job Description

Research DutiesFisheries Technician is responsible for helping to maintain the Societys lobster project databases, including collecting data from members, quality assurance of data, data entry, analysing data and developing, producing, and distributing standard data products, and report preparation. They will also participate in other industry/community driven science projects as assigned by the Director of Operations.

  • Maintain database and tracking sheets for various programs including data collection, analysis and quality assurance of data, data entry, and distribution of standard data products. Including but not restricted to the preparation of required paperwork for current projects including MOUs/waivers for fishermen, trap and minilog inventory, assisting with a year-end reports for ESFPA and other contracts as assigned by the Director of Operations.
· Support and participate in at sea sampling for Fall 2022 Winter 2023 in South West Nova ScotiaQualifications· Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word)· Experience interacting with the fishing industry· Experience working with marine life (especially lobsters) and on boats· Academic background in biological (esp. marine) or social sciences· Ability to work both independently as well as with a group· Experience maintaining and updating databases/inventories· Effective communication, client services, problem solving and decision making skills· Willing to work some weekends and evenings as required· Comfortable communicating orally or via email· Must own a vehicleJob Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 24 per weekSalary: $17.00 per hourBenefits:
