Maintenance TechnicianLocation: Shelburne, Nova ScotiaType of Employment: Permanent, Full-timeUnion Status: NSGEU Local 25Competition # 21078Closing Date: October 12, 2021About Our OpportunityUnder the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, and ventilation under the jurisdiction of Western Regional Housing Authority (WRHA).ResponsibilitiesPrimary AccountabilitiesCarry out preventative maintenance to all buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities, and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records.Monitor contractors engaged to carry out maintenance contracts.Provide recommendations regarding the replacement and acquisition of materials and equipment.QualificationsCertificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesmans Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyperson certification), plus three years of experience in building and property maintenance.Knowledge of planned maintenance procedures as well as an awareness of building codes, municipal by laws, Provincial Acts and Regulations such as Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate fire regulations.Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with tenants, staff and contractors.Possess competencies in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.AssetsEmergency First Aid and WHMIS certificationsCompetencies required at this level of work are: Client orientation, Teamwork, Initiative and Interpersonal skills.If you are a team player, who is passionate about improving the lives of Nova Scotians, you are the candidate we are looking for to join our team.
