Job Description

Are you a resource management professional seeking a transformational leadership opportunity If so, consider this exciting opportunity to join the dynamic team!The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is looking for an innovative leader who is as passionate about Ontarios natural resources as we are; and who is self-motivated and can take the initiative to move our programs forward strategically.As a Supervisor, you will lead and manage the business/operation planning, development, implementation, evaluation and compliance monitoring of programs (i.e. forestry, public lands, water control, fisheries and wildlife). You will deliver on strategies and frameworks to support the implementation of mandated corporate, regional and local programs and services. In this position, you will also lead and oversee important relationship building and consultation with Indigenous communities, and stakeholders, and work to develop relevant partnerships to deliver priority work.We are currently hiring for 2 positions:

  • 1 Permanent, 49 prince street, Sioux Lookout, North Region
  • 1 Permanent, Hwy 17/599, Ignace, North Region

  • Provide leadership for attracting, building and motivating high-performance teams that are focused on responding to the Ministrys complex natural resource management challenges with a strong client service focus.
  • Work collaboratively to leverage capacity from across work units, regions and the Ministry to ensure the best available advice is contributing to evidence-based decision-making.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a multi-disciplinary team, including human resources functions of recruitment, training and development, and labor relations, to support an inclusive and engaged team.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of effective and comprehensive programs and ensure program integrity and quality service, consistent with legislation, regulations, provincial strategic directions, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide expertise in operationalizing strategic plans through the development of work plans, issues management and communication strategies, and provide advice to senior ministry management.
  • Build and maintain relationships/partnerships with internal and external clients.
  • Lead the implementation of consultation programs and processes with external agencies and stakeholders on land use or environmental assessment plans or projects.
  • Be a strong champion for organizational change, enabling staff and teams with diverse motivations to effectively make necessary transitions.
How do I qualifyLeadership and Management Skills:
  • You have demonstrated leadership skills to build effective teams by valuing diverse input and experiences to deliver results for resource management programs.
  • You can lead and manage change by nurturing working relationships with internal staff and external communities with varying views and opinions.
  • You have the ability to learn, or have demonstrated experience applying, human resources practices, policies, directives and collective agreements in relation to recruitment, training and development, and labor relations.
  • You possess strong supervisory skills to assign/direct work of staff and determine priorities and expectations.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
  • You have the ability to learn, or are knowledgeable about, resource management principles to lead the development and implementation of options/recommendations to support land use and natural resource management.
  • You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant resource management, strategic direction, legislation, guidelines and regulations.
  • You have experience defining problems, developing and implementing solutions as well as formulating realistic recommendations for effective delivery of a broad range of programs and services.
Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills:
  • You have demonstrated collaboration skills to develop linkages with key networks and stakeholders for various land/resource management planning initiatives.
  • You have proven negotiation and facilitation skills to serve as a liaison and to balance diverse interests in support of Ministry programs.
  • You have well developed communication skills to provide recommendations, and expert advice, and prepare reports, briefing/background notes and responses to a variety of correspondence.
Analytical and Project Management Skills:
  • You have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex resource management issues.
  • You have strong project management skills to coordinate, resource and plan the delivery of various projects.
  • You possess sound judgment to determine project priorities, and anticipate, resolve and escalate issues to the senior manager, as required.
