Job Description

The Indigenous Graduation Coach supports KO First Nation students in the transition from elementary through to Graduation. The Indigenous Graduation Coach acts as a mentor and advisor, and plays an essential role as an advocate for each KOBE student. This position also collaborates with a multitude of stakeholders (including schools, KOBE staff and the broader community) to support learning of Indigenous students, and to help implement culturally responsive approaches to the engagement of KO First Nation Students (eg. Academic, mental health, justice, culture knowledge). The Indigenous Graduation Coach is accountable to the Student Services Manager and the Director of Education.The responsibilities and duties for the Indigenous Graduation Coach are to:

  • support students from transition from elementary through to Graduation;
  • provide intensive support to students and their families with the goal of seeing each student through to graduation and transition into their desired post-secondary pathway;
  • support students in strengthening their connection to their school, enhance student safety, engagement, communication, wellbeing, and support challenges faced by KO students;
  • advocate in the school community for equity of opportunity and outcome for KOBE students;
  • build student capacity, confidence, self-advocacy, pathway supports, and youth empowerment/skill building while identifying and removing barriers for KOBE students;
  • create a supportive/inclusive environment in the school that enhances student reflectivity, sense of belonging and prevention services;
  • work actively with KOBE Elementary and partner secondary schools in the areas of mentorship, improving student achievement, school orientations, pathway planning, transitions, advocacy, increasing parental engagement, supporting students in actively participating in their education, and soliciting student voice;
  • identify student-specific barriers to graduation, strategize how to help a student overcome these barriers and create measurable student-specific activities to support successfully graduating from high school
  • work closely with teachers and other school administrators to ensure students graduate. This work can include reviewing and suggesting alternate lesson plans or collaborating on student-specific initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree; Bachelor of Education degree an asset
  • Possess an attitude of respect and sensitivity towards clients with varied backgrounds, abilities, and educational status.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to be flexible within your role.
  • Current valid Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license own an operating vehicle, and the willingness and ability to travel for school board related business as required.
  • Experience facilitating education for school staff and family members.
  • Innovative and independent with strong problem-solving skills
Salary range:$41,062 - $107,466 based on education and experience.KOBE offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package.Benefits include:
  • 7 weeks paid summer holidays
  • 2 weeks paid Christmas Break
  • 1 week paid March break
  • Ontario Teachers Pension Plan
