Job Description

The Community Ministries Worker provides holistic leadership and support to Communityamp; Family Services for Bulkley Valley Ministry Unit according to The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values.Communityamp; Family Services:Through empathetic care, assists individuals in determining an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviors of the guest/family.Prepares and meets with guests to distribute food hampers and other items as required.May assist with Community Feeding Program meal prep, clean-up, and serving.Prepares and submits reports and program evaluations as required.Foodbank Services:Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods.May liaise with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g., social assistance, RCMP, parole, urgent situations)May serve as receptionist, answering phones promptly and as necessary.May call in employees as required to fill in for last-minute employee absences.Gives input into orientating, training, and evaluating staff.Oversees the coffee service schedule.Provide appropriate assistance to guests when required.Administration, Program, and Other:Notifies the Community Ministries Director of operational trends and makes recommendations as necessary.Assists in completing kitchen and janitorial inventory and reports information to the Community Ministries Director.Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations according to Food Safety regulations.May have to arrange to discard items that are not usable per policy.Maintains a clean and organized workspace, including the intake office and food storage room.Maintains confidentiality with all guests and donor records.May assist by thanking donors and providing written receipts and thank you cards or letters for all donations as appropriate.Completes cleaning duties as assigned. (performs “Chore and Duty Log” throughout the workday)May organize/help with special programs, including Christmas programs, and assist with fundraising as needed.May assist in the kitchen and as needed.Oversees/supervises activity during dining times for lunch and Community Feeding programs.Participates in scheduled job-related training as required.Communicates all related food allergy information to the Cook.Communicates with other staff observation/concerns at staff meeting.Ensures all contact with donors, staff, volunteers, and the general public is courteous and professional.Always treat guests and co-workers with respect and dignity.May supervise fellow workers, students, and/or volunteers.Ensures proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including Universal Precautions.May conduct inspection/security checks of property and grounds following policies and procedures.Compliance with all safety procedures.Ensures proper lifting, twisting, and reaching techniques are used during job performance.Performs other job-related duties as assigned and required.HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:00AM-2:00PMEducation, Qualifications and Certifications:The successful job applicant will have completed the following:Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a related field.Food handling training is beneficial.Alternate combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience and Skilled Knowledge RequirementsThe Incumbent must have the following experience before hiring:At least two years of prior related experience, including experience in a wide range of social service programs and communicating orally and in writing with outside agencies.Skills and Capabilities:The Incumbent is required to lift to 15 pounds.The job performance requires attentive listening (empathy to guests/volunteers/co-workers) and the ability to give directions.Requires monitoring of the environment and attentiveness when interacting with guests.Good team and interpersonal skills.Good organizational skills.Fluent in spoken and written English.Willingness and ability to complete training as required by contract or The Salvation Army.Willingness and ability to complete WHMISamp; Universal Precautions training (to be completed during probation period).A valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract will be considered an asset.Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:Background check consent.A clear vulnerable sector screening.A clean drivers abstract.Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.The Salvation Army will accommodate candidates as required under applicable human rights legislation.If you require a disability-related accommodation during this process, please inform us of your requirements.
