Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Stagecraft Instructor is responsible for the Theatre III classes for Amber Academy. In keeping with the vision, philosophy, values and mission of Amber Academy Youth Fine Arts Society, the successful candidate will be required to plan and teach weekly classes for students in the fundamentals of stagecraft arts including directing, casting, and stage management. This will involve both coaching students in directing their peers for performances, and assembling a student Production Team in preparation for event performances. Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:Qualifications

  • Self-directed with excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Enjoy working with youth and able to establish rapport with students aged 13+ of varying levels of experience and abilities
  • Enthusiastic about mentoring and empowering youth to become confident individuals and engaged members of the community
  • Able to create and implement a program with clear curriculum goals and weekly lesson plans
  • A strong knowledge of acting techniques, directing concepts, and backstage elements and operations
Experience & Education
  • Must have previous experience directing, or assisting in the direction of, a play or musical theatre performance
  • Drama or musical theatre performance experience is required
  • Certification in a program focused on working with children and youth of varying developmental abilities, or equivalent proven experience in an educational or recreational capacity is an asset
  • Preference may be given to applicants with an education background in Stagecraft, Fine Arts, Drama, Theatre Performance or Theatre Production
  • Experience in visual arts, music, dance and/or choreography would be an asset
This is a contract, part-time term position beginning in September 2022 and terminating June 2023 with the option to renew. Hours will be most Fridays and Sundays from 2:30-4:30pm.
