Job Description

CompetitionPosted Nov 24Type Full-timeDescriptionSouthwest Horizon School Division is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Social Worker/Guidance CounsellorEffective January 6th, 2022 to June 30th, 2022Under the direction of the Superintendent and Director of Student Services, the Division Social Worker position operates as a link among the school, the students, their families, and the community to ensure that our student’s social and emotional needs are being met. This position will also include guidance counsellor duties at Hartney and Waskada Schools.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid MB Education & Training School Clinician Certificate, or eligible to obtain
  • Registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers
  • Ability to provide intervention, treatment services and resources to students
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated ability to consult and collaborate with school teams and outside agencies in order to coordinate efforts on behalf of students
  • Experience in crisis intervention and case management
  • Experience in a school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide ongoing support to students, families and schools after referral
  • Knowledge and skills in assessment, counselling and learning interventions
  • Demonstrated ability in providing documentation, follow-up and in-servicing
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to professional standards of practice and code of ethics
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and perspectives
  • Effective communication demonstrated through written/verbal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Valid Manitoba drivers license and ability to travel and work flexible hours as necessary.
  • Proven ability to research, develop and deliver innovative programs.
  • Ability to prioritize, structure and manage scheduling caseload effectively to achieved targeted outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation and organization of education and training staff.
