Position: Cree Language/Traditional Knowledge EducatorLocation: Oscar Blackburn SchoolStart Date: May 3, 2021FTE: 1.00 FTETerm of Employment: Term to June 30, 2021Application Deadline: Open Until FilledOscar Blackburn School is a Nursery to Grade 10 school with approximately 270 students in South Indian Lake, which is a community with a population of approximately 1000 people. It is located 130 air-kilometers northwest of Thompson, MB. Road access into South Indian Lake is approximately 327 kms, year round gravel road and a short ferry ride. This lakeside town offers community services such as a grocery store, health complex, daycare and a community hall.Qualifications:Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)Fluency in the Cree language both written and oralKnowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to actionPrevious land based education teaching experienceAbility to relate traditional legends and stories from the EldersExperience in teaching traditional culturePractical experience in wilderness survival and outdoor activitiesStrong classroom management skillsExperience working in a northern communityA team player committed to the belief that all students can learnDuties and Responsibilities:Teach High School Credit Courses with Respect to Cree Language and Traditional Learning.Teach Nursery – Grade 8 Traditional Knowledge with Cree Language Reference while TeachingEstablish community connections with the local Associations, Community Health and Family Services, Manitoba Hydro, Province of Manitoba Sustainable Development Branch and other organizations that promote Indigenous Languages and Way of LifeMeet and plan with local Indigenous Way of Life committees in the school in addition to the Assistant Superintendent, Way of LifeCoordinate and plan on-the-land curricular outcomes with classroom teachersSupport school’s annual traditional activitiesApplicants are required to submit the following:cover lettercurrent resumelist of three professional references including contact numbers, all of whom must have knowledge of the applicant’s performance in the applicant’s current or recent assignmentThank you for your interest; however, only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.By applying, you consent to the Division contacting your references.
