Job Description

Do you have leadership skills and an interest in mining projects undergoing rehabilitation If so, consider this position in the Mines and Minerals Division, Mineral Development Branch.This position will require some travel to remote areas (e.g. mine locations, Indigenous communities)What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will:

  • Manage projects, ensuring completion within timelines and budget
  • Conduct project control activities including status reports, project status meetings and briefings
  • Provide advice and recommendations on project-related issues and other matters related to mine rehabilitation projects, mining related hazards and contaminated sites
  • Supervise and audit rehabilitation projects; prepare contract change orders, review and approve invoices
  • Provide expertise on mine rehabilitation and operational initiatives in support Branch strategic, long-range and operational plans for policy analysis, program development, and planning processes
How do I qualifyTechnical KnowledgeYou have knowledge of:
  • Mining and exploration and associated pollution controls, rehabilitation measures and acid mine/rock drainage treatments
  • The Mining Act, Mine Rehabilitation Code and those of other provincial and federal ministries to contribute to the development of new legislation, regulations and policies
  • Budget and accounting procedures to prepare expenditure forecasts and reports
Leadership and Project Management Experience
  • You have project management and leadership experience to motivate and lead staff, direct work and establish priorities, while managing multiple projects
  • You can utilize your organization skills to ensure deadlines are met
Communication and Consultation Skills
  • You have advisory and consultation skills to collaborate with others, provide advice, technical guidance and to exchange information
  • You have facilitation and relationship building skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with officials, management, program staff, clients and stakeholders
  • You have presentation and consensus-building skills to make presentations to various parties, provide convincing explanations on complex policy issues, and gain support for projects and initiatives
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
  • You can evaluate the environmental and economic feasibility of project-related options
  • You have research skills and can assess relevance of information and make recommendations
  • You have experience with risk assessment to recognize and anticipate risks posed by proposed legislation, regulations and policies, evaluate the threats and recommend ways to mitigate
