Please ensure that you complete the self-identification portion on the position application.Position Title: SchoolsPlus Associate Facilitator/Parent NavigatorReports to: SchoolsPlus FacilitatorEmployee Group: Non-UnionLocation: South Shore Regional Centre for EducationStart/End Dates: Term - Effective Immediately to June 30, 2023Wages: $68,296/yrDeadline to Apply: Friday September 23, 2022 at 11:59pm (AST)The SchoolsPlus Associate Facilitator/Parent Navigator, along with the SchoolsPlus Community Outreach Worker Team, works collaboratively with youth, families, communities, and agencies to bring services to school sites, and to support youth and family success. The Associate Facilitator/Parent Navigator will work with the SchoolsPlus Facilitator to coordinate resources within the community and community agencies for students at risk, network and advocate for the SchoolsPlus program, and support and monitor the progress of students served by the program. Associate Facilitator/Parent Navigator will develop a deep knowledge of the school system and multi agencies including the people and their processes, build positive working relationships, and work with, assist and support families of students with special needs while they learn to self-navigate the school system and multi agencies that support families and students. You work very closely with regional student services staff and school staff to ensure clear and open communication. Working collaboratively with Principals and other staff, the Associate Facilitator/Parent Navigator reports directly to the SchoolsPlus Facilitator.The SchoolsPlus Associate Facilitator/Parent Navigator will, in collaboration with the Facilitator:

  • Support the Outreach Team and work with the other Facilitators/Navigators who work as Parent Navigators within the SSRCE
  • Lead Outreach Team members operating in geographic area of responsibility
  • Support the schools in the geographic location
  • Support the development of SchoolsPlus program in any new schools to the program
  • Be support for and lead team during brief Facilitator absence
  • Share meeting, program, and other responsibilities with Facilitator as agreed with or designated by Facilitator, or team agreement.
  • Facilitate & coordinate all phases of service delivery for children, youth, and families deemed at risk, including but not limited to, identification, intervention, monitoring and consultation services
  • Develop partnership and liaise with other agencies to increase local access to services for identified students and their families
  • Oversee the implementation of specific programs within the SchoolsPlus initiative
  • Develop or access programs through needs-based planning with schools
  • Complete documentation, data collection and reporting associated with the SchoolsPlus Project, as required at the Board and Provincial levels
  • Facilitate meetings, lead presentations and training where appropriate
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of School Support Services
  • Provide presentations to youth, staffs, communities, parents and agencies as appropriate for the purpose of informing, facilitating, and supporting.
  • Provide supports for youth / parent / family / community / partner / and team leadership and opportunities for youth / parent / family / community / partner / and team leadership in diverse and opportune ways, including, but not limited to community involvement, peer leadership, project leadership.
  • Be available to participate in related policy and policy implementation discussions and implementation in appropriate ways
  • Provide leadership and direction according to principles of participatory, permissive, collaborative leadership style, with and for the SchoolsPlus Community Outreach Worker Team
  • Undertake these duties in a manner in keeping with child / family – centered practices and in keeping with principles of relational theory
  • Liaise with school board personnel and outside agencies to increase access to services for identified students and their families.
  • Assist families in preparing applications for services and funds needed to support their children with complex needs.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing linkages with community resources, parent support groups and other service providers.
  • Arrange home visits and meetings at school and other convenient locations to discuss family concerns.
  • Provide parent education sessions on services and supports available to families through Health, Justice, Community Services and Education in the local region.
  • Provide support to parents understanding and navigating the program planning process.
Qualifications and ExperienceThe successful applicant will possess the following:
  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, or Education plus 4 years related experience/ Masters of Social Work/Counselling /Psychology with 2 years related experience.
  • Current registration with the appropriate regulatory body, or eligible to become registered.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support the needs of students and their families and over the summer.
  • Experience in integrated service delivery and direct service delivery to children, youth and families with complex needs.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the Nova Scotia public school system and culture, Community Services, Justice, Health and community resources, is preferred.
  • Capability to develop budgets and supervise funding utilization to ensure efficient and effective allocation of resources.
  • Experience in supervising / managing teams according to principles of participatory, permissive, collaborative leadership style, and in keeping with restorative / relational approaches and principles
  • Ability to keep accurate records, maintain confidentiality and create case plans.
  • Ability to work independently and to work collaboratively with various service providers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; facilitation skills.
  • Strong technology skill, especially for purposes of record keeping, communication, presentation, and facilitation.
  • Ability to plan and organize a demanding caseload with minimum supervision, and with effective, appropriate communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and working with collaborative agencies or equivalent
  • Ability to engage and work with diverse communities and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of youth and their families.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record Check and a completed Child Abuse Registry - Request for a Search Form.
