Job Description

Closing Date: June 14, 2021Reporting to the Lead, Regional Water Monitoring, the Environmental Technician, Hydrogeology (known at Teck as Environmental Technician) is responsible for supporting ongoing monitoring and compliance for our regional and site-specific groundwater programs. This position will be for 9 months with the possibility of extension.To be successful, we are looking for someone with the ability to stay organized and thrive in a fast paced, team environment; someone who has strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a capacity for practical problem solving. Most importantly, we require someone who has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills who can engage with the community and build and maintain those relationships. The position also requires a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental project management experience. The ability to work efficiently with nominal supervision and work independently in outdoor remote locations, in inclement weather conditions is essential.You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with regulatory agencies, the public, and other departments within Teck. Working a compressed work week with alternating Fridays off, come experience what work life balance is all about!Responsibilities:Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresParticipate in and supervise drilling, groundwater and surface water monitoring and sampling programs including Teck’s regional drinking water monitoring program to confirm compliance and determine environmental conditionsCarry out environmental data entry in our EQuIS database, and use that data to draft technical reports and communicationsParticipate in and lead field investigations and inspectionsProvide technical, administrative, and project management support, as well as contractor supervisionDevelop and review Environmental Protection Work PlansAdhere to environmental procedures and standardized protocols, follow-up with laboratories, and maintain quality control and assuranceQualifications:Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Hydrogeology, Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), Water Resources or Natural Resource fieldMinimum two years of experience in the field of environmental ground water compliance monitoringExperience with environmental data management software (EQuIS) and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite®Knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, permits, and effective industry practicesAt Teck, we value diversity.
