Job Description

Closing Date: February 1, 2022Reporting to the Manager, Fording River Extension (FRX) Project, Regulatory and Environment, the Lead, Closure is responsible for the development of closure plans for Teck’s Elk Valley operations, with an initial focus on the FRX closure and reclamation plan. Following the successful development of the FRX closure plan, this role will transition to the centrally led closure planning group.To be successful, we require someone with outstanding interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, who can support our team, supervise contractors, collaborate with internal subject matter experts (SMEs) and support external engagement with communities of interest.   • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead and deliver closure and reclamation plans, including development of closure cost estimates, that meets our business needs and requirements of the environmental assessment process
  • Collaborate with internal SMEs and coordinate with external closure professionals responsible for delivery of the FRX closure and reclamation plans and related materials
  • Identify closure risk, provide technical direction, review design options and recommend the best alternatives for closure-related work
  • Implement and advise on appropriate project management controls to maintain project costs, schedule and deliverables
  • Prepare and contribute to professional reports, presentations, regulatory applications and submissions for internal and government audiences
  • Support internal and external engagements related to closure
Qualifications:
  • Engineering or Science degree in a natural resource or environmental field
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a related field and/or project management in mining and/or industrial operations, with proven success in working with operations, environmental and engineering teams
  • Technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Experience in closure planning and execution for the purpose of regulatory approvals, permitting, or impact assessment contribution in the natural resource sector would be an asset
