Job PostingHalifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Recreation Skateboard Instructor in Parks and Recreation. HRM encourages applicants to self-identify.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Summer Recreation Skate Park Instructor leads recreation programs for a variety of age groups. The Instructor designs activities within a planned curriculum and supports persons with disabilities in programs (e.g. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, etc.) - may be required to develop a specific program plan. Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as greeting participants, leading activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities, participating in staff meetings.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience

• Skateboarding or cycling skills and experience
• At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children/youth in a recreational setting
• At least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skills
• Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development an asset
• Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities

• Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
• Successful completion of all training requirements (Including High Five and WHMIS) prior to start date
• Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
