Job Description

Energy ModelerDGH Engineering (DGH) is seeking an Energy Modeler to provide support our full-service integrated design firm. In this role, you will perform energy modeling and analysis on new buildings and renovations, working closely with engineers and designers. You will work closely with clients and professionals and provide clear verbal and written communications.Responsibilities

  • Support projects through services including energy modelling, documentation, researching sustainable building design strategies and writing reports
  • Provide building performance modeling
  • Review and interpret structural, mechanical, and electrical design drawings
  • Perform take-off calculations for all building elements and parameters required for energy modelling results
  • Develop energy models as per modelling procedures and rules from applicable reference guidelines, standards, and codes
  • Evaluate and analyze various building energy measures
  • Provide design recommendations to improve energy efficiency of building
  • Prepare modelling documentation and submittals as required
  • Prepare detailed responses to energy model reviews and audits from various modelling authorities
  • Provide assistance to project designers on design solutions affecting building energy consumption
  • Prepare commissioning plans and forms
  • Periodically travel to project sites on an as required basis for ½ day or 1-day site visits
Requirements
  • Graduation as an Engineer from an accredited university, or as an Engineering or Architectural Technologist
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a P. Eng., E.I.T. or C.E.T. with the Manitoban Professional Association or Certifying Body
  • Experience using eQUEST or other energy simulation tools
  • Good knowledge of relevant standards including ASHRAE 90.1, NECB, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a passenger vehicle
  • Security clearances will be required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Good understanding of energy retrofit methods and government energy efficiency incentive programs.
  • Good understanding of mechanical HVAC design and/or whole building energy modeling
  • Experience dealing with contractors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to function in a team-based environment
  • Proven ability to work with minimal oversight and demonstrated self-initiative
  • Well-developed client management skills
  • Aptitude for and general understanding of construction methods and procedures
