Job Description

Full Time (35 hours per week), Spring/Summer ContractMartindale Place is a unique Senior’s Community where Christian values are lived and excellent housing is provided. It’s a safe and friendly environment, which allows seniors to sustain their independent lifestyle without the worries and costs of maintaining a home.Overview:The Landscaping- Grounds Maintenance Student/Worker is a motivated individual who loves to serve seniors, finds satisfaction in keeping the buildings and grounds in pristine condition.This position is funded partially through the Canada Summer Jobs program and as such, the Candidate:(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;(b) is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and(c) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop landscape “refresh and renewal” plan for various areas of our campusBegin construction on some aspects of above-mentioned planMaintain garden beds by recommending new and replacing plants that are not thrivingPruning and trimming of shrubs/plantsKeeping garden beds weed freeRepairing lawnsOperate various pieces of equipment, including, but not limited to four-wheeler, push mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, wheelbarrow, etc.Ensure that parking lots, sidewalks and curbs are clean and free of debris.Attend training and safety meetingsQualificationsCollege Diploma/Certification – Preference will be provided for those who are in process or have completed College Certification in a Landscape or Horticulture program.Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniorsAbility to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performanceCustomer-oriented and friendlyPossesses excellent time management and organizational skillsWorking quickly without compromising qualityAwareness of safe environmental practicesAble to cope with the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the job
