Your Opportunity:The town of Stettler is located 80 km east of Red Deer, and 97 km north of Drumheller. The Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, with 34 acute care and 50 long term care beds, provides service to the residents of Stettler and surrounding area. It is the only laboratory collection site for community patients in Stettler. Our site is a busy and dynamic work environment for those who enjoy challenging their skills as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. This is a multi-site position that rotates shifts to the Bashaw Community Health Centre located approximately 50 km north of Stettler.Description:As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. Laboratory experience includes phlebotomy, specimen collection, preparation and referral. The ability to effectively communicate in English and provide excellent customer service is essential. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility is required. Good interpersonal and the ability to work independently as well as promote good teamwork is required. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail essential. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations prioritizing workload, demonstrating tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians required. Practices effective infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures, and maintain patient confidentiality. Receptive to new ideas and change. A valid Alberta drivers license is required for blood collections external to the facility.
