Job Description

Watershed Project AssistantJob title: Watershed Project AssistantReporting to: Watershed CoordinatorSalary: $17.50/hrHours: Flexible - total of 240 hours worked between hire date and March 31, 2023Location: Primarily remote, with occasional time spent at Stratford Town Hall and SAWIG Watershed areaStart Date: As soon as possibleNumber of Positions: 1Purpose of the position: A Watershed Project Assistant is required to carry out a variety of tasks including literature searches, creation of educational signage and social media content, public engagement and collation and analysis of data under the guidance of the Watershed Coordinator. This project is primarily computer based but may involve working outdoors occasionally.Key responsibilities & duties

  • Conduct a literature search to collect information regarding freshwater ecosystems including threats to freshwater, importance of riparian zones, and indicators of health
  • Mock-up design of educational signage and work with professional designers and translators
  • Create educational and engaging social media content about conservation and threats to freshwater
  • Using previous data collected create a report analyzing the health of streams in the watershed
  • Review previous work conducted in the watershed and suggest future work opportunities or additional surveys that should be completed
  • Conduct site visits/assessments if deemed necessary
Qualifications
  • Due to funding requirements applicant must be a current part or full-time student*
  • Post-secondary education related to forestry, biology, wildlife management, environmental science, or related field required
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
  • Proficient English writing and communication skills
  • Candidate will need access to a quality laptop to perform job duties
Assets
  • Experience creating social media content
  • Some environmental document writing experience
  • Previous work with watershed groups, volunteer time with outdoor/conservation groups, demonstrated environmental management
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
