Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly Days / Monday - Friday(Commencing Immediately until December 2021 with Possibility of Extension) The purpose of this position is to assist dental public health dentists using the 4-handed dentistry technique to manage patients, and/or provide preventive dental services to children and other at-risk population groups in Prince Edward Island under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist. The position may also serve as receptionist to the clinic. Duties will include but not limited to: - Assisting dentists and dental hygienists in the delivery of dental services; - Cleaning, sterilizing instruments, and setting up the instrument tray;- Taking and developing dental x-rays;- Polishing teeth and applying caries inhibiting agents to teeth; - Providing dental health education to children and/or parents, and/or other at-risk population groups on proper diet and oral hygiene, including proper flossing and brushing techniques;- Applying dental sealants on teeth that the dentist or dental hygienist has assessed as requiring them; - Managing appointment schedules, replying to general inquiries, and ensuring the efficient flow of daily work routine in a dental clinic, including the school preventive clinic;- Maintaining patient charts and recording of treatment, including electronic records of treatment services;- Receiving payments, issuing receipts and preparing bank deposits;- Updating class lists on computer for Risk Assessment Teams;- Other duties as required.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: - The successful applicant must have successful completion of Grade 12 and successful completion of recognized Dental Assistant Course. - Must be eligible for Annual Registration with the Dental Council of PEI- Must have current dental assistant experience.- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.- Must be proficient in use of computer applications including; word processing, spreadsheets, and Groupwise.- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.- Must have access to reliable transportation.- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset. Preference will be given to members of the UPSE health bargaining unit of Health PEI, first preference will be given to employees who work at the worksite.
