Routing Administrative Officer - Level 12Location - Summerside Branch OfficeRELIEF POSITION - Commencing Immediately until March 31, 2022 with the possibility of an extensionPOSTING OPEN TO PRESENT PERMANENT/PROBATIONARY UNIONIZED EMPLOYEES OF CUPE LOCAL 1770 WITH SENIORITY.POSTING OPEN TO OTHER PSB CUPE LOCALS WITH SENIORITY.POSTING OPEN TO RELIEF / CASUAL EMPLOYEES OF THE LOCALTHE PUBLIC – MAY APPLY AT SAME TIME BUT WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED AFTERUNIONIZED EMPLOYEES.The Routing Administrator helps increase the efficiency andon-time performances of bus routes. TheRouting Administrator provides daily support to the PSB Transportation Servicesteam serving all of PEI. This position requires a high level ofinterpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills as the job entailsextensive interaction with the community, transportation staff and schooladministrative staff as well as a high level of computer literacy.Duties include but are not limited to:Operating routing software technology to assist routeplanning and scheduling;Assisting with planning, and coordinating of therouting, scheduling and daily transportation services including regularand special education services;Evaluating current transportation operations todetermine cost savings and efficiencies, using software and other tools;Assembling data from multiple sources, conductinganalyses, performing research, and building reports, graphs andpresentations that effectively communicate information to the managementteam, schools, educational partners, etc;Compiling, verifying accuracy, and sorting informationto prepare data for computer entry;Managing a variety of data sets, including creating,updating, deleting, querying and archiving;Analyzing key data in order to identify emergingtrends, efficiencies and strategic opportunities;Finding optimal solutions to routing plans through theuse of data, analysis, and algorithm modeling;Interpreting School Boundaries & Guidelines;Addressing school zoning inquiries for parents, schoolsand school communities;Performing dispatcher responsibilities, includingaddressing emergency situations and providing alternative solutions tonormal practice;Communicating with school staff and parents oninformation regarding transportation and route schedules;Preparing and distributing stop information and routechanges to drivers when required;Monitoring student ridership and providingrecommendations to management for routing changes;Conducting periodic reviews of bus routes includingstops, turn around points, driving time, mileage, bus load and schedules;Working closely with external partners that providespecial transportation services.QualificationsWeekly hours - 35 hours weekly, daysQualifications: Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in a business, computer or administrative related field from a recognized institution; Training and demonstrated ability to use word processing, databases and spreadsheets;Database experience is required, preferably in a related field;Strong interpersonal skills, listening skills, problem solving, and organizational skills are required;Excellent communication skills both oral and written are required;Ability to prioritize work, multi-task and pay special attention to detail is required;Must have demonstrated excellent problem solving abilities;Must have the ability to independently organize workload and exercise good judgement;Must have the ability to work as part of a team and with very little supervision;Must have the ability to interpret maps and be familiar with PEI geography, roads and communities;Knowledge of office management systems and procedures is required;Applicants must submit a criminal abstract and haveno past or present criminal record which would be detrimental in workingin an environment with children, youth or other adults;Applicants must have a good attendance and work record;Experience and training with BusPlanner Pro and/or Megamation Systems would be an asset;Knowledge of digital mapping software and its application to transportation management is an asset. * Testing may be required.
