Job Description

Forbes Bros Ltd. is looking for a qualified Civil Estimator to join our growing Forbes Civil team in Surrey BC. Specializing in shallow utility construction in the lower mainland, the Forbes team continues to see significant business growth in the region. The Civil Estimator joining the Forbes Family will already have well-developed skill and knowledge of unit price and lump sum civil estimating, bidding and project management/coordination experience. Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Forbes ongoing effort to improve workplace safety is carried outamp; never compromising on safety in all aspects of our every day
  • Reads, reviews and understands the project requirements and scope of work when developing bids/estimates
  • Responsible for the development and distribution of a one to two-page description of the project to all members of the project team for reference
  • Assigns responsibilities for executing bidding plans after careful assessment of needs to utilize their qualifications and strengths
  • Discusses the qualifications required of the key project positions in specific detail with the profit center and department managers
  • Develop project execution plans with support from operations to establish basis for estimates including schedule development
  • Coordinate with bid/tender group in shared services to ensure complete package is developed and submitted for tenders
  • Establishes weekly meetings to review on-going bid status and formulate action items
  • Estimates and quotes all civil work, but not limited to only civil projects
  • Develops quote packages for services and materials not provided by in-house services in support of estimate development
  • Support the project management team to develop the budget, schedules and plans for a project during bids and post award
  • Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned
Candidate Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in related discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of estimating experience with expertise in Civil and Underground services
  • Experience in overhead distribution and substation construction services an asset
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel, MS Project software and scheduling software
  • Must have general knowledge of the principals involved in the operation of construction and maintenance methods and procedures
  • Strong communication skills from internal clients and external customer service/client relations
  • Valid Class 5 driver #39;s licenseamp; clean drivers abstract
  • Existing knowledge of WorkSafeBC standards and policies is an asset for this position
