DescriptionPeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Lab Technician for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Evening position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $26.84 - $45.56. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.Hiring Bonus and Relocation AvailableMedical Laboratory Technician (MLT)JOB SUMMARYResponsible for performing a broad range of laboratory procedures and tests and may concentrate performing those duties in one of the following areas; blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology or drug testing services.This job requires travel to and extended work assignments in various PeaceHealth hospital laboratories. Float pool caregivers are subject to all policies and procedures for PeaceHealth laboratories and any site-specific policies and procedures, as needed. Dress code will be specific for the facility where assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Collects, processes and performs a variety of moderate and high complexity tests on specimens and complete all documentation for pre-analtyic, analytic and post-analytic activities.- Maintains equipment and records, monitors tests and procedures to perform quality assurance activities related to test performance.- Gives direction and guidance to phlebotomy and specimen management teams, may assist with department orientation for new caregivers and students- Consults with clinicians, supervisor and other caregivers as appropriate on test results, requirements and testing protocols.- Maintains appropriate records for specimens, tests and data. Utilizes computer systems in reporting and documenting analysis.- Participates in department in-services and continuing education programs, attending lectures, workshops and video presentation as required. Participates in required competency assessment and proficiency testing activities. Provides active (CAP, HIPPA, etc.) support.- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff or as delegated by Laboratory Medical Director.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited laboratory training program or equivalent education as defined by CLIA 42CFR493.1489- Program or institution must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency.EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:- 2 years #39; experience performing high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory department preferred.- New graduates will be consideredLICENSE/CERTIFICATION:- Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification by ASCP, ASCPI, or AMT required within 6 months of date of hire.OTHER SKILLS:- Ability to recognize and ensure validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results for testing.- Working knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries- Good written and verbal communication skills- Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs- Mathematical ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratios, proportion measurements and apply practical algebra- General understanding of laboratory equipment to calibrate and do minor repairsREGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTESFlorence, Cottage Grove, Ketchikan, United General:- On-call may be required- Required to perform phlebotomy at least 10% of the time.- Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist licensure required before onboarding and working in Washington hospitals.- This position is responsible for badging in/out according to procedure. Management of the timecard is the same for all caregivers with documentation of start/stop times as well as breaks and lunches.- This position is required to have transportation available on each scheduled day of work, regardless of assigned location. Routine travel within a 30-mile, one-way, radius of the pool member #39;s home base is the responsibility of the caregiver. Travel over the 30-mile radius from home base will be eligible for mileage reimbursement if using a personal vehicle.- Lodging accommodations and meals may be included based on the length of the assignment and distance over a 30-mile radius.- Parking permits will be supplied if needed for the assignment.- The initial training will occur at a laboratory nearest the caregiver #39;s home base. This training will be documented per policy and kept with the Float Pool Manager. The Float Pool Manager will ensure all training and competency documents are completed and made available during inspections.WORKING CONDITIONSWorks in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting. Intermittently (1-5% of the time) works in other office, client and conference facility environments. Continuous (67 - 100%) exposure to moderate noise level. The ability to frequently (34-66 %) stand, walk or sit is required. Continuous (67 - 100%) handling of small objects up to 10 pounds including lifting and carrying is required. Intermittent (1-5%) lifting and carrying of up to 45 pounds is required. Must have good manual dexterity of both hands and employ fine hand movements to continuously (67 - 100%) manipulate instruments, computer terminal keyboards and other items. Good corrected vision and the ability to do near point work at varying distances from the eye is required. The ability to identify and distinguish colors is required. Tasks involve potential for exposure to blood or body fluids containing blood, or other potentially infectious materials, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. Continuous (67 - 100%) use of clinical laboratory reagents and chemicals is required.UNITED GENERAL PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS *:- Work requires normal amounts of physical effort at least 66% of the time.- Ability to lift objects weighing 45 lbs. or less.- Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation. Work may require exposure to hazardous laboratory chemicals and sharp instruments. Work may require operation of company owned vehicles. Reasonable anticipation of exposure to blood and body fluids on occasion.- Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail up to 100% of the time. May require interaction with violent or uncontrollable persons.MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTJOB SUMMARY*Responsible for performing complex laboratory procedures and tests in areas such as blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology, using established protocols and procedures. Monitors, screens and troubleshoots devices, tests and procedures, recognizing anomalies, and making corrections to ensure quality.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Evaluates specimens for testing, utilizes appropriate criteria and upholds established performance standards. Applies established criteria for testing, and analysis of entire process from preparation, conducting test, functioning of devices and procedures to ensure quality test results. Performs waived, moderate and high complexity laboratory tests.- Maintains equipment and tools; performs quality assurance testing, routine calibration and ensures optimal performance.- May assist Technical Specialist or Supervisor with the evaluations of new methods and and procedures.- Consults with clinicians, supervisor and other caregivers as appropriate on test results, requirements and testing protocols.- Gives direction and guidance to phlebotomy and specimen management teams, may assist with orientation of new caregivers and students, and accesses competencies if incumbent has at least 4 years experience for moderate complexity testing, and 1 year of experience for high complexity testing.- Maintains appropriate records for specimens, tests and data. Utilizes computer systems in reporting and documenting analysis.- Participates in department in-services and continuing education programs, attending lectures, workshops and video presentation as required. Participates in required competency assessment and proficiency testing activities. Provides (CAP, HIPAA, etc) compliance support.- Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:- Bachelor #39;s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biological Science or an equivalent related science.- Current with ongoing education requirements for continuous certification.EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:- 2 years of clinical experience performing high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory department preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:- Certified Medical Technologist, ASCP or equivalent is required within six months from date of hire.- Valid driver #39;s license for driving positions.OTHER SKILLS:- Ability to recognize and ensure validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results for testing.- Working knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries- Good written and verbal communication skills- Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs- Moderate lifting up to 35 pounds- Mathematical ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratios, proportion measurements and apply practical algebra- General understanding of laboratory equipment to calibrate and do minor repairsREGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTESUnited General- Required to perform phlebotomy 10% of the time.
