Job Description

Job Summary:We are seeking a Safety Administrator (Safety Admin) to join our team based out of our Surrey Terminal. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the safety department by assisting in ensuring safety and compliance in our operations.About Us:Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory filling’s requirements.
  • Maintain and update employee files.
  • Complete and submit necessary documentation to Provincial and Federal Agencies
  • Prepare and submit incident and accident reports.
  • Assist with new hire documentation processing.
  • Process and audit driver logs to ensure compliance with NSC and DOT regulations.
  • Review NSC safety profile and track recorded violations.
  • Assist with documentation for insurance renewals and CVIs
  • Assist with completing and submitting Hazardous Occurrence Investigation Reports to Canada Labour Board
  • Communicate with drivers to remind them of expiring certifications and licenses to be renewed on time to maintain compliance
  • Assign courses to existing and new hire employees
  • Monitor expiration dates and facilitate training registration and assignment for employees
  • Provide training, education, and support to drivers using the Geotab system
  • Assist with completing new hire packages and onboarding paperwork
  • Assist with Safety training and providing resource materials for employees and new hires
  • Prepare safety documentation and reports as required
  • Audit and file driver logs and track violations
  • Other duties/projects on a as needed basis
Required Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written ensuring accurate and timely data entry, professional communications, and the ability to produce well-articulated documents.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel and Word.
  • Have strong analytical skills and well-developed ability for problem-solvingamp; troubleshooting.
  • Be a self-starter who takes initiative and can work independently as well as collaboratively as part of the team.
  • Have effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Training and Experience
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of administrative experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and understanding of the trucking industry.
  • Previous experience in a safety role is an asset.
