Job Description

DEFINITION:Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor III will be responsible for lifeguarding and providing instruction in a variety of programs and activities as well as supervising/controlling the activities of the aquatic center. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  1. Supervise public use of the Aquatic Centre and related facilities;
  2. Provide leadership, training, and supervision to Lifeguard I #39;s and II #39;s as per the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor ;
  3. Assist with the smooth operation of aquatic programs on a daily basis, including duties as lesson supervisor;
  4. Instruct Red Cross swimming lessons;
  5. Instruct Lifesaving Society Lessons;
  6. Instruct Aqua Fit classes;
  7. Answer and act on public enquiries, questions and complaints;
  8. Assist with the implementation and promotion aquatic programs and special events;
  9. Assist with establishing emergency, operational and maintenance procedures;
  10. Perform facility maintenance such as cleaning and minor repairs to equipment;
  11. Ensure that all regulations regarding public health and safety are enforced according to applicable standards;
  12. Prepare and maintain records and reports as necessary;
  13. Operate point of sales cash system and facility programs, as required;
  14. Shift work may be required;
  15. Other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. 3000+ hours of aquatic experience with basic knowledge of pool equipment, operating systems and water testing;
  2. Proven leadership, team-building and supervisory skills;
  3. National Lifeguard Service Award (Pool Option);
  4. Aquatic Emergency Care or equivalent First Aid course;
  5. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor;
  6. Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification;
  7. Pool Operator #39;s course Level II
  8. Candidates must possess at least one of the following:
    1. National Lifeguard Service Instructor;
    2. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer;
    3. Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer; or
    4. Cardiopulmonary/Standard First Aid Instructor.
  9. Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
  10. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co-workers and the public;
  11. Good written and oral communication skills.
