The Strait RegionalCentre for Education is entrusted, under The Education Act of Nova Scotia, to deliver the public school program to approximately 5787 students in 20 schools throughout the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond. The Strait Regional Centre for Education , with the support of approximately 1050 staff members, works diligently to influence its vision of excellence in lifelong learning. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the SRCEs jurisdiction encompasses an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometers with a population of 54,972.Screening and appointment will be made according to the SRCEs Hiring Policy.Deadline for applications: 06/03/2022 at 11:59 pmEffective date: 08/01/2022Vice PrincipalRole:To provide leadership and to assist the principal in ensuring that the Public Schools Program and curriculum are implemented to maximize student learning. The vice-principal is also responsible for the orderly operation of the school in the absence of the principal, and any duties assigned by the principal.Additional Information:Responsibilities:

• To assist the principal in taking all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students enrolled in accordance with policies established by the school board
• To assist in the completion of required documents as requested by the SRCE and/or the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
• To assist in the identification of staffing needs for the school and to assist in the selection of staff
• To assist in maintenance of financial records
• To ensure that appropriate evaluation techniques are used for both students and staff
• To assist in the maintenance of a system to handle organizational tasks such as student records, teacher records, attendance, purchasing, budgets and timetables
• To assist in the hiring of substitute teachers as necessary
• To ensure the security of the school building
• To perform other such tasks as are assigned from time to time by the principal of the school.

Qualifications:

• Master of Education or currently enrolled;
• Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience in a public school;
• The ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community, and outside agencies to better meet the needs of students in the school and to use appropriate communication modes including current technologies;
• Ability to be a positive contributor to an administrative team and to assist the school staff to achieve the goals and objectives as well as to follow the policies and procedures of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Strait Regional Centre for Education;
• Ability and commitment to support staff and educational partners in decision-making by demonstrating an energetic and collaborative leadership style;
• Ability to assist the principal in creating and maintaining a safe, orderly, positive and effective teaching and learning environment
• Education administration experience (desirable)
