Learn more about living and working in The Pas/OCN at www.discoverthepasocn.ca.The Province of Manitoba is seeking a highly engaged and motivated individual to fill the Senior Park Interpreter position in the northern park region office, located in The Pas. The Manitoba Parks Interpretation Unit delivers educational activities, events and guided programs to connect visitors to the sites, stories and landscapes in provincial parks. Park Interpreters provide these positive visitor experiences to inspire stewardship of park resources. We believe that through learning and discovering comes understanding, appreciation and protection of our parks, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come. This dynamic position will deliver interpretive programs in Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, and provide a leadership role contributing to the success of the Interpretation Unit in all provincial parks.The Manitoba government has a comprehensive compensation and benefits package which includes extended health care, health spending account, dental care, vision care, long term disability insurance, group life insurance, maternity/paternity leave, family related leave and a defined pension plan (some pension plans allow for portability between the Civil Service Superannuation Board and employers). • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver #39;s License, or equivalent
• Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends, statutory holidays and shift work. Work schedule is a five-day workweek that includes Saturdays and Sundays for public programming at Clearwater Lake, with regular days off mid-week. Some evening shifts are required for programming, especially during the summer season
• Must be willing and able to travel with occasional overnight stays
• Must be willing and physically able to perform the duties of the position including working in various types of outdoor conditions, hiking trails, and lifting and moving items

Qualifications:Essentials:

• Post-secondary education in a related field such as Indigenous studies, natural sciences, natural resources management, education, history, recreation/tourism. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Experience developing and delivering interpretive programs at a natural, cultural or historical site, such as a park or museum.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities on various issues and projects.
• Excellent verbal communication skills with experience delivering presentations to a wide range of audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write various documents and reports at a professional level.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team setting, and with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to adapt to changing workloads and demands, while working independently under minimal supervision.
• Strong knowledge of the natural, cultural and historical resources in Manitoba #39;s Provincial Parks.
• Knowledge and a thorough understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures and perspectives.

Desired:

• Knowledge of rules and regulations for visitors to Manitoba #39;s provincial parks.
• Supervisory experience, including highly developed coaching and leadership skills.
• Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in French.

Duties:The Senior Park Interpreter will develop and deliver programs at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, such as guided walks, campfire talks, and school programs. This senior position also provides mentorship and training for Park Interpreters in other provincial parks, particularly with providing guidance with development of Indigenous and cultural-themed programming.
