Job Description

As a member of the health care team, performs duties related to patients’ personal, social, emotional, spiritual, and recreational needsin accordance with established policies and procedures. To ensure the highest possible standards of patient care, assisting the clienttowards recovery by providing a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for psychiatric in-patients.The incumbent must fulfill the requirements of the Criminal Records/Vulnerable Person, Child Abuse Registry check and Adult AbuseRegistry check, and adhere to all Northern Health Region (NHR) policies and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Graduate of an approved Psychiatric Nursing Assistant Program/Health Care Aid Program (other combinations of education
and experience may be considered)
  • Current certification from a recognized Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), or obtain within three (3) months of
commencing employment
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience related to Psychiatry in an acute care psychiatric facility or crisis unit
  • Knowledge of recovery based practice and interventions as it relates to patient care
  • Working knowledge of Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet
  • Ability to demonstrate socially appropriate behavior and personal characteristics at all times
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills through clear communication and positive behaviour
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to respect and promote a cultural diverse population
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
  • Satisfactory employment record required
