Full Time (35 hrs/wk)Wage: $16.00/hourTerm: May 9, 2022 – Aug. 26, 2022Deadline for application: April 10, 2022 at 11:59 pmThe Oliver and District Heritage Society (www.oliverheritage.ca) operates a Museum and Archives and provides leadership in heritage preservation in Oliver BC, a rural town in the South Okanagan valley. Our valley is known for its unique climate and agriculture production – primarily fruit and wine. Nearby communities include Osoyoos, Penticton, Okanagan Falls, and Kaleden. Our collection deals primarily with items from Oliver and RDOS District area C. We acknowledge that our workplace is located on the unceded traditional and ancestral territory of the syilx Okanagan Nation.The successful candidate(s), supported by staff, will develop skills in the Museum and Archives sectors through practical hands-on experience by performing daily tasks and working on special projects essential to the operation of a heritage organization, with an emphasis on collections, exhibits, and programs. All work will follow COVID-19 safety protocols in the organizations COVID-19 Safety Plan.The successful candidate will be a positive and outgoing secondary or post-secondary student, a Canadian citizen, with an interest in working in the fields of museums/archives, information management, cultural heritage management, conservation, interpretation, tourism/hospitality, history, or education.Qualifications:The ideal candidate(s) will exhibit strong organizational and social skills, responsibility and reliability, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. They must be able to conduct themselves in a friendly, professional manner and demonstrate excellent time management skills, enthusiasm, and creativity. They must have excellent communication and writing skills. They should be comfortable working as a team and independently, and show a genuine interest in heritage work. All applications will be considered, but preference will be given to students enrolled in programs related to Museum/Archival studies, education, arts/culture, tourism, and history.
