Job Description

As an integral part of the Mental Health Program, a Proctor III will provide services to individuals experiencing multiple needs due tomental illness and/or poor mental health, that requires intensive input in order to reduce risk and promote recovery so that theindividual themselves can be an active part of their community. The client, with the help of the Mental Wellness and RecoveryPractitioner, will identify specific goals and activities. The focus of Proctor III services will be on crisis supports and rehabilitation inthe areas of social behavior, life skills, self-care, medication self-administration, coping skills, etc.The Northern Health Region (NHR) and mental wellness services endorse the principles of risk reduction, recovery and resiliency asper the strategic direction. All staff working within the Health Care Region will establish a context that supports individuals, families,and communities in making healthy decisions directed toward reducing or containing the adverse health, social, and economicconsequences of behaviors, attitudes, and environments that may increase risk to a person’s health.The incumbent must fulfill the requirements of the Criminal Records/Vulnerable Person, Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult AbuseRegistry Check, and adhere to all Northern Health Region policies and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of an educational training program in the area of mental health (other combinations of education and
experience will be considered)
  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class V driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel the region year round
  • One (1) year related volunteer/work experience
  • Working knowledge of Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet
  • Advanced Violence Prevention training obtained within three (3) months of employment
  • A.S.I.S.T. training obtained within three (3) months of employment
  • Mental Health First Aide obtained within three (3) months of employment
  • Understanding of client empowerment
  • Knowledge of mental health, mental illness, the principles of recovery, and therapeutic techniques
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Understanding of issues faced by individuals whose mental health is compromised and may be facing a mental illness
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak Cree an asset
  • Respects and promotes a culturally diverse population
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and independently
  • Ability to assess and teach basic life skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Satisfactory employment record required
