Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Foundry Pharmacy, located in Thorold, Ontario, is looking for a Compounding Specialist to join the team. This is a full-time, on-site, permanent position, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This role will prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products in accordance with a master formula, NAPRA guidelines and USPlt;797 gt;, USPlt;795 gt;, USPlt;800 gt; standards. The incumbent will also support the Pharmacy Manager in day-to-day operations in tasks related to retail pharmacy, clinic orders and patient support programs. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESamp; ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCompounding Responsibilities:

  • Compounding sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical preparation using aseptic technique and following standard operating procedures and NAPRA and USPlt;797 gt;, USPlt;795 gt;, USPlt;800 gt; standards
  • Documenting details of the process when compounding in the sterile laboratory and maintaining records for the cleanroom facility.
  • Accurately performing and verifying calculations related to the prescription formulation
  • Submitting to regularly scheduled garbing and cleaning competency, glove fingertip, and media fill testings
  • Maintaining, cleaning and disinfecting of all laboratory equipment, instruments, utensils, and work surfaces required for preparations
  • Conducting air and surface sampling
  • Maintaining product inventory, including completing inventory counts and checking expiry dates
Pharmacy Responsibilities:
  • Entering patient data, including billing and patient care information
  • Processing the new and refill prescriptions and working with adjudication third party billing, insurance
  • Coordinating with appropriate patient support programs to resolve insurance queries and ensure timely delivery of compassionate doses to clinics
  • Overseeing progress on resolution of outstanding insurance issues and collection of payments
  • Answering telephones, emails, patient refill requests
  • Ensuring accurate documentation and record keeping
  • Maintaining prescription and OTC drug inventory, including completing inventory counts, checking expiry dates and placing orders
  • Safeguarding confidential patient information at all times
Patient Support Program Responsibilities:
  • Communicating with physicians’ offices and representatives to enrol clinics into the program
  • Contacting patients to enrol into the program including confirmation of contact information, third party insurance, financial assistance requirements
  • Coordinating delivery of prescriptions
  • Maintaining inventory of program supplies
  • Answering questions or concerns from physicians or patients as needed or referring to pharmacist when required
Clinic Orderamp; Verification Responsibilities:
  • Communicating professionally and in a collaborative manner with healthcare providers, patients and other team members to provide or collect information regarding billing, orders and supplies, and scheduled deliveries as necessary
  • Prioritizing new and existing orders to ensure incoming clinic requests are received and processed accurately
  • Managing orders, inventory and deliveries using multiple technological platforms (i.e. email, internal communication, SMS, telephone, relevant references)
  • Preparation of clinic orders, including processing using correct software (i.e. Zoho, Kroll), placing purchase orders, and packaging.
  • Ensuring accuracy of prepared orders and packaging of cold chain products (i.e. refrigerated or freezer Credos, tracking loggers)
  • Verifying products in incoming and outgoing stock transfers between locations
  • Investigating discrepancies in inventory counts
  • Delivering clinic orders in a professional and timely manner, as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience working in a community pharmacy (1-2 years)
  • Knowledge of Kroll an asset
  • Compounding experience is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, detail oriented and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in an environment with changing priorities and multiple demands
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Strong customer service and ability to present themselves in a professional manner
EDUCATION
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of post-secondary education an asset
SPECIFIC WORKING CONDITIONS OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying approximately 20 pounds
