Job Description

The Town of Tillsonburg is looking for two (2) Part-Time Fire Communicators who would be responsible for ensuring our communities and first responders get the help they need, when the need it, always. Key duties include; emergency and non-emergency call answering, call processing, dispatching and tracking of emergency resources, incident communications support, incident reporting, and customer service.Department: Fireamp; Rescue ServicesDivision: Fire Communications ServicesGroup: Tillsonburg Dispatchers Firefighters’ AssociationReports To: Assistant Chief, Communications and AdministrationGrade: Association Agreement $27.98 per hour (2023 Agreement Rates)Hours of Work: Part-Time (shifts could include Days/Afternoons/Evenings/Weekends/Holidays)Openings: 2Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position.Interested Candidates please apply by end of day Thursday July 18, 2024Responsibilities:

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and alarms
  • Effective emergency and non-emergency communications
  • Solicit incident details from caller and allied agencies
  • Call processing using computer, telephone, radio and information technology
  • Timely dispatch and tracking of emergency resources
  • Operate radio, phone, CAD, recorder, and computer information technology
  • Maintain unit status
  • Log information on phone, radio, CAD, recorder, and RMS
  • Maintain detailed incident records
  • Verify incident information and transfer Standard Incident Reports to partners
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal and external partners
  • Maintain emergency contact list
  • Anticipate needs of Incident Command and first responders
  • Maintain running assignments and CAD mapping
  • Maintain CAD, computer, phone, recorder, software, data and IT Infrastructure
  • Test IT and back-up systems
  • Exceptional customer service and issue management
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Two (2) year community college diploma in a related field of study or equivalent experience and/or training in Communications or a related field is required. A diploma in Emergency Telecommunications is an asset.
  • Previous knowledge of emergency services is an asset.
  • NFPA 1061 Level Iamp; II accreditation an asset or ability to obtain.
  • Excellent typing and verbal communication skills
  • Active listening skills
  • The ability to demonstrate resiliency and remain calm in a high stress, demanding, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully within a team environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply new knowledge/skills in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent keyboarding skills (50 WPM) and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to type and enter data with exceptional accuracy.
  • The ability to learn and operate new software and information technology
  • Professional, respectful and courteous demeanor with a willingness and commitment to working with and helping members of the public and staff.
  • Ability to deal with people under stress or stressful situations
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to continuous change

  • Must be able to work rotating shifts Days/Nights/Afternoons/weekends/ holidays and have flexibility to report to work on short notice in the event of an emergency
  • Ability to meet testing requirements of the position
