Job Description

Position SummaryThe Director, Clinical Services is responsible and accountable for all nursing functions and personnel within the Surgical Program and assigned areas of responsibility inclusive of Pharmacy, Laboratory Services and Diagnostic Imaging. The position manages and coordinates the delivery of quality patient care, the development of team members and of nursing systems.Qualifications Required

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, or other recognized health related discipline degree
  • Current Certificate of Registration from a College recognized under the Regulated Health Professionals Act, required
  • Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in which leadership skills, theoretical and clinical knowledge have been demonstrated.
  • Demonstrated behaviours supporting the Core Values of Respectful, Compassionate, Adaptable and Encouraging.
  • Active membership in professional organizations.
  • Possess the ability to promote effective relationships within Clinical services and areas of responsibility, with other hospital services, other health disciplines, with health care facilities and community services.
  • Demonstrated innovation and leader of change.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Recognition, understanding and demonstrated Emotional Intelligence (EI), particularly emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, optimism, stress tolerance and empathy in a variety of situations.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the concepts and operations of Patient and Family Centred care.
  • Demonstrated leader of leaders; capable of developing other leaders to their full potential.
  • Results-oriented with excellent financial and quality management, project management, risk management, and operational planning skills.
  • Experience with formal LEAN and/or Six Sigma Training an asset.
Key Responsibilities
  • Determine and create organizational structures for delivery of nursing and team member services in areas of responsibility.
  • Interpret, and apply professional and health care legislation and standards.
  • Collaborate with and recommend policies and procedures for hospital committees, i.e. Disaster Planning, Safety Programs, Environmental Programs and Advisory Committees. Participate on committees, as needed.
  • Investigate and document identified employee incidents and recommend follow-up action.
  • Plan and conduct team meetings for each area of responsibility.
  • Develop and manage supportive professional relationships with Leaders, including motivating, coaching, facilitating, and mentoring members of the Leadership team
  • Provide mentorship and guidance in a diverse environment that promotes cultural diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Manage conflict for team functioning and provision of optimal quality patient care.
  • Ensure that performance reviews are conducted for each assigned team member as per hospital policy.
  • Participate in learning opportunities for personal and professional development. i.e. Conferences, Webinars.
  • Collaborate with Employee Health and Wellness to modify job requirements; assisting employees to return to work following illness or accident.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of collective agreements and labour relations resource materials.
  • Apply and appropriately document use of the progressive discipline procedure up to and including termination.
  • Participate in Union negotiations, as well as Grievance and Arbitration hearings.
  • Plan, prepare and submit for approval capital, operating and staffing budgets for each area of responsibility.
  • Monitor and control utilization, spending and budget allocations to ensure adequate space, staff, equipment and supplies to fulfill identified needs.
  • Support the management of difficult patient and team member concerns, including those that involve physical and/or verbal abuse.
  • Review feedback from patients and implement plans for improvement in areas identified to be a concern. Contacting patients and families in a timely manner, to resolve patient care concerns.
  • Participate in the development of the Hospital #39;s Quality Improvement Plan, including strategies for improvement, measurement targets to be achieved and ongoing monitoring of performance in these areas.
  • Have knowledge of and enforce policies and procedures related to Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, and Workplace Violence and Harassment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to privacy and confidentiality through actions and follow-up on privacy breaches.
  • Ensure the performance of the following activities:
    • Workplace inspections
    • Information sessions (i.e. safety talks, staff meetings, tail gate meetings)
    • Incident, complaint and work refusal investigations
    • Worker training by providing information, instruction and supervision
    • Correcting health and safety contraventions or hazardous conditions
    • Commending worker and supervisor health and safety performance
    • Appoint competent supervision
    • Establish a budget for Healthamp; Safety and Return to Work activities
    • Responsibilities referred to in OHSA Sections 25, 26amp; 27.
    • Advise workers of workplace hazards
    • Commending worker health and safety performance
Other pertinent conditions:
  • Must be available to work all hours as required, which may include; weekends, statutory holidays, days, evenings and nights. Hours are subject to change based on the operational needs of the hospital
  • Non-Union Salary Schedule ($68.29 per hour- $79.89 per hour)
