Job descriptionPosition: Harvest Treatment SupervisorEmployer: ACFORLocation: 40 km South of Smooth Rock Falls via Red Pine Road.ACFOR’s mission is to restore forests, create better, local, renewable energy systems, and empowered communities for today and tomorrow.   • Successful completion of a post secondary education program in forestry or at least 4 years experience as a harvest supervisor in a reputable company.
  • Ability to work out of Smooth Rock Falls, ON (in staff accommodation) or nearby town from December- April.
  • A positive team player with a solutions-oriented attitude
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Skilled with using GPS, GIS, email and general computer literacy
  • Physically fit to travel safely through challenging, remote terrain
· Nice to have:
  • Certifications recognized in Ontario related to harvest supervision and logging operation safety
  • Scaling training or certifications
  • Heavy duty mechanic experience or training
ResponsibilitiesAt a high level, the job will be to support all technical aspects of ACFOR’s operation on the Timmins Forest and Wildlife Reserve. You will be supported by the ACFOR Ontario Operations Coordinator and remotely by the ACFOR core team in New Brunswick. Some examples of tasks required are:
  • Cruising forest to be managed- recording qualitative and quantitative data
  • Reconnaissance for the purpose of road planning, locating resources, determining high conservation area, identifying high recreation potential
  • Laying out roads, and buffers
  • Supervising active harvest operations to ensure safety, quality and production targets are on track
  • Supervising road building
  • Scaling forest products
  • Supporting harvest operators
  • Producing progress reports on a weekly basis
  • There will be a significant amount of independent work

Five months of the year we will be operating out of Smooth Rock Falls, the balance of the year may be in the Smooth Rock Falls area or based out of the ACFOR headquarters in New Brunswick. This will be assessed based on project requirements and employee preference.Compensation/BenefitsWhen working away from home vehicles and accommodation are provided. Schedule:
  • From December-April there will be an expectation that the Harvest Supervisor is on site an average of four days/week.
  • From May-November the schedule will be flexible.
