Job Description

Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $28.30Work Locations: variousMetrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto #39;s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.At Metrolinx, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.Our Customer Protective Services Operations Team is seeking various part time Station Safety Ambassadors who will serve as a brand ambassador for Metrolinx and is responsible for detecting and deterring disorder at Stations and protecting the safety and security of customers and employees in station parking lots, platforms and buildings within the regional transit system by providing a uniformed security and safety presence.These roles will be responsible for serving customers with respect and dignity and creating an inclusive environment where all customers feel welcomed.What will I be doing

  • Enforce Metrolinx By-Laws on station property to the extent directed by management.
  • Ensure customer and employee safety on Metrolinx property by providing direct instruction to customers/public around platforms, parking lots and other areas to ensure their safety.
  • Provides the first level of emergency response assistance and provides first aid and/or assistance to passengers, employees, and train crews.
  • Provide security escort to Station staff during the opening and closing of stations (e.g., late evening lock ups, as required). May be required to operate doors, gates, elevators, escalators, and alarm systems.
  • Conducts safety and quality checks of assigned location including platforms, stairs, tunnels, elevators, escalators, and any associated equipment.
  • Observes and reports any safety or security deficiencies at assigned stations for rectification.
  • Logs and reports deficiencies and takes corrective action to ensure the safety and security of employees and customers.
  • May be required to the handling lost and found items, crowd control, searching of Metrolinx premises, equipment, or passenger vehicles, protecting site or evidence while waiting for Customer Protection Officers and/or emergency response services.
  • Conducts parking enforcement through parking patrols and issuing parking fines.
  • Assists with fare enforcement through occasional gate line inspections at stations or events.
  • Prepares related incident reports and secures, maintains, and presents evidence for prosecution in hearings or court, as required.
  • May be assigned Mobile Patrol where responsible for conducting multiple patrols of Metrolinx transit stations across the network.

They may include weekends, evenings, split shiftsamp; holidays.What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
  • Completion of a community college diploma or certificate in the field of Law and Security, Social Services, customer relations, or the equivalent combination of education and experience related to law and security work and/or customer service.
  • Minimum one year experience involving law and security enforcement and/or customer service delivery in a customer-oriented environment and/or with a vulnerable population.
  • . Ability to interpret and apply Metrolinx Bylaws and Provincial Offences Act.
  • Sound knowledge of vulnerable populations, social work, sociology, security investigations, loss prevention/control principles and techniques would be an asset.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Classquot;G quot; driver #39;s license and be able to meet the corporate standard for a good driving record.
  • Must have a Valid Levelquot;C quot; First Aid, C.P.R. certificate and Mental Health First Aid Certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada - Prior to start date.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to Satisfy a Criminal records check for the purposes of obtaining Provincial Offence Officer status.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.
  • Must have personal means to travel for work from one work location to another in a reasonable timeframe, potentially spanning the entire Greater Golden Horseshoe area
  • This position involves long periods of standing, walking, stair climbing, and regularly opening heavy doors.
  • Must be prepared to work variable, elongated, and split shifts, which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be prepared to work on a 24-hour rotating shift basis, including weekends and holidays, and on some occasions alone.
  • Ability to work in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • Work also involves operational use of departmental vehicles.
