  • Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes is a supportive housing agency which serves people with mental illness and addiction challenges. The Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for minor repairs, basic maintenance, moving furniture, painting and cleaning of housing units across the city, rented by the program. The Building Maintenance Worker performs his/her work as directed by the Property Manager and the Maintenance Worker and may also be requested to perform minor maintenance duties at the office and at other Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes owned properties.
  • The Building Maintenance Worker must keep all matters confidential and be able to work sensitively with people with mental illness and addiction challenges. The Building Maintenance Worker shall ensure that the maintenance services which he/she provides are delivered in accordance with the legal mandate of the corporation and other pertinent legislation and in a safe and healthy manner.
  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability, flexibility, adaptability, hospitality and dignity with knowledge of and sensitivity to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions and developmental disabilities.
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
What You #39;ll Bring to Our Team
  • Current enrolment in a secondary, post-secondary or trades school program related to the job requirements is an asset
  • Proficient in basic household repairs and maintenance, must be familiar with tools and capable of using tools safely and must be physically able and willing to move furniture and clean/paint apartments
  • Current enrolment in a secondary, post-secondary or trades school program related to the job requirements is an asset
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must provide a valid current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Excellent communication, team building, negotiating and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in French and/or a language in addition to English is an asset
  • Meet all of the guidelines set out by the Government for the Canadian Summer Jobs Program
Hiring Criteria - the following criteria is established by Canada Summer Job: This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.
  • Applicants may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • As per the Summer Canada Jobs Program criteria: International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
