Job Description

AGENCY PROFILE:Our mission is to reduce homelessness through advocacy, education, empathy, and community building. We serve community members who are currently experiencing homelessness as well as those experiencing other forms of housing insecurity.We are a not-for-profit, registered charitable society governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and have been an integral part of our community, providing essential emergency and transitional beds, housing support, diversion and navigational services since 2014.JOB TITLE: Casual Client Support WorkerWAGE: $18/hrSUMMARY: Currently seeking up to five casual Client Support Workers to add to our casual pool. Please note: we are unable to guaranteed hours however, full time opportunities are anticipated in the coming months and will be offered to our casual Client Support Workers prior to posting externally.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To support the effective and safe operation of Hub House in accordance with agency policies and procedures through providing support to residents of Hub House as they work to achieve success through their individualised care plans and transition into permanent housing.
DUTIES:
  • Provides appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioural, physical needs of clients.
  • Maintains and supervises established routines and procedures.
  • Assists residents to action and achieve individualized goals.
  • Utilizes effective active listening, deescalation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exercises good judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • Fosters positive relationships with community partners and individuals as necessary.
  • Provides referrals and follow-up as necessary.
  • Participates in shift change and staff meetings as required, shares information in a respectful, non-judgemental manner.
  • Completes all necessary documentation, including written records/reports, intake/discharge forms and inputs data into the HIFIS database.
  • Performs other organizational duties as assigned.
  • Mindful of health and safety standards, regulations, policies and procedures and the importance of compliance.
  • Participates in housekeeping duties including food preparation and cleaning.
  • Establishes good rapport, professional boundaries and builds appropriate relationships with clients, coworkers and external stakeholders.
  • Provides support from a client first, person-centred, trauma informed approach.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Human Services, Counselling, Addictions, and or Social Services is considered asset, however an acceptable combination of relevant applied or lived experience and education may be considered.
  • Understanding, sensitivity and support for a Housing First philosophy and issues relating to the social and economic barriers to housing stability for vulnerable and diverse populations is required.
  • Excellent computer and clerical skills- ability to electronically create, upload, file and send documents, navigate a database, effectively manage email, familiar with Google Workspace applications is considered an asset.
  • Ability to use sound judgement when making decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional interpersonal relationships with clients, teammates and other stakeholders.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/MADNT, ASSIST, First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work on site 12 hour shifts, days, nights, weekends, holidays.
