Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.About Our OpportunityWe are looking for University or College students to assist with projects related to forestry and wildlife programs.Primary AccountabilitiesAs a Forest Resource Worker you may be involved in timber cruising, forest harvest and road inspections, silviculture treatment monitoring, wildlife habitat and watercourse site inspections, wildlife surveys, biodiversity and forest research, forest inventory, tree improvement, and extension related activities.You will provide timely, efficient and accurate information and support to existing staff on a variety of natural resource programs and projects. Some independent field work and office work will be required.You will work as part of a passionate team of resource professionals and technicians working throughout either Western, Central or Eastern Regions of Nova Scotia. The work may include extended overnight stays away from the home office.The student positions will report to one of the 3 Regional Services offices where work is focused on forestry and wildlife operations within the region.Qualifications and ExperienceYou must be a full-time university or college student in the field of natural resource management returning to study in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program).You demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills and problem-solving ability. You are also capable of conducting field work both independently and as part of a team. You will be familiar with using a personal computer with standard office software for applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and email.Knowledge or experience with Arcview/ArcMap, handheld data collectors (Juniper Mesa), and the ability to navigate using GPS and compass would be an asset. A valid driver’s license is required.We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.Additional InformationThe earliest start date will be May 2, and latest end date of August 20, 2021 (16 weeks).Please note there are currently 5 positions, with the possibility of additional positions.
