Job Description

Darling International Canada Inc., is Canada #39;s largest provider of rendering and recycling services to the food industry, operating six processing facilities across Canada. Darling Canada provides essential services for the efficient and environmentally responsible management of collecting, processing and recycling edible and inedible animal by-products. Darling is committed to environmental sustainability, superior quality and excellent customer service.JOB DESCRIPTION:Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operator is responsible for used cooking oil (UCO) management, offloading, safe operation of the equipment, ensuring general maintenance in the workplace and plant support. The role will work to support the Company #39;s goals of processing grease products at our site to serve our customers. The work environment is an industrial plant setting with exposure to noise, grease, heat and machinery.

  • The operator must be aware of the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety program and demonstrate a commitment to safety
  • The operator must demonstrate a good sense of teamwork to carry out his or her work;
  • Responsible for receiving all UCO materials- 205L drums, bulk trailers and tankers.
  • Required to clean and maintain all departments.
  • Accurate completion and submission of all required paperwork: materials documents
  • Responsible for following all company health and safety rules and for communicating all reportable incidents and hazards, as well as wearing all required PPE
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on machines and tools.
  • Monitor production processes and troubleshoot issues to maintain productivity, product quality and reduce downtime.
  • Capable of effectively and safely managing work functions on their own or as part of a team.
  • Cross training in other departments/roles to cover absences
  • Seasonal yard maintenance, snow clearing, lawn care, premise clean up, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid forklift license is an asset;
  • Basic understanding of pumps, motors and other industrial equipment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to make decisions based on sound judgment;
  • Have a sense of leadership and understand the importance of teamwork to ensure continuity between departments;
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential work functions in accordance with the WCB and other federal and provincial standards, including adherence to qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain a regular and punctual presence in accordance with the WCB and other federal and provincial standards
  • Must be able to walk short distances (factory environment)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs and maneuver 205 L drums
  • Clear communication skills
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to keep up with physically demanding tasks such as repetitive bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, etc.
  • Walking, standing and moving for extended periods of time.
  • Typical of a manufacturing plant environment including a high volume of raw material odors and changing temperature conditions.
  • Climbing metal stairs, ability to stretch and see difficult areas, moving in confined spaces, etc.
  • Moderate to high noise level.
HOURS OF WORK:
  • Monday to Friday (weekends as required) - Days (7:00 am to 3:00 PM)
